PRESS RELEASE
1st October 2011

AMaCLimited sponsor UKTI GO UK Business plan competition

Berkshire RG12 0XQ UK, 1st October 2011:  Around 80 Australian and New Zealand businesses expand their business presence in the UK each year, most of these with the help of UKTI, the British Government's trade and development arm. But none of them get quite the helping hand that the Go UK competition provides.

The blend of the massively influential UK TI team with AMaCLimited’s 25 years of innovative global client programmes is not new. AMaCLimited sponsored UK TI Technology World 2009. We have also worked with Clients on programmes around Global Trade Conferences in the Europe, USA, Middle-East, Asia and the Caribbean.

Alan MacKelworth Chairman of AMaCLimited commented: “Building global CEO:CEO cross-border relationships is a journey not a single event - for the next 12 months we will work with the UK TI Team and our fellow sponsors.  I believe passionately that Inward Investment and Export are key and this is the chance to work with some 300 competing New Zealand & Australian organisations and 1,200 executives.

GO UK is a fantastic opportunity but competitors should be aware of the commitment and costs of winning. There is no point in arriving in the UK without having built relationships with the UK executives of key-customers, alliance partners, thought leaders and local suppliers in advance.  That does not happen overnight and you will need help and advice from many quarters. LinkedIn and Skype are valuable tools.

With that in mind, we asked a Client, Paul Stewart, to write a case study of their own journey so far - “Kiwi companies fly by being on the ground”. http://bit.ly/OBPKiwis.   Paul is the CEO of ON-Brand Partners, a company that specialises in assisting organisations in aligning and engaging their people with the business strategy.  ON-Brand Partners have worked internationally for the past five years, and in the last twelve months taken the critical next step by establishing a full presence in the UK market.”

Paul is a former Chief Economist of the ANZ Bank and has held roles of GM Strategy and Director Organisational Effectiveness.  He is also the co-author of the international best seller ‘Branded Customer Service –the New Competitive Edge’ (Berrett-Koehler, 2004).

Winners will receive support packages worth A$25,000 package to help their business get going in the UK. For three Australian winners and one New Zealand winner the prize package includes:

  • CEO:CEO introductions with key-customers and alliance partners from AMaCLimited
  • Business registration and accounting support from Kevin Beare & Co.
  • A return business class airfare to London with British Airways.

Entries are now open for Go UK participants. New Zealand and Australian participants can submit their business plan online with close of entries on Friday 3 February 2012. http://goo.gl/ArgeH

The finalists for each region/category will be announced in February 2012 and the Australian winners and final prizes will be awarded at a cocktail reception in March in the following locations:

  • Sydney (covering all NSW, ACT and WA entrants);
  • Melbourne (covering all VIC, SA and TAS entrants); and
  • Brisbane (covering all QLD and NT entrants).

AMaCLimited Mission Statement: To create new revenue for clients by successfully facilitating national & cross border executive introductions around the globe, helping build relationships between executive teams of key-customers, alliance partners, thought leaders and innovative suppliers.

As ON-Brand Partners starts to become established and gain more success internationally, I’ve been asked by a number of people to share my thoughts about what it takes for a New Zealand company to ‘get started’ on the international stage. While I certainly don’t have all the answers, we’ve certainly learnt some valuable lessons
  • The Future of Banking
Two years ago, in the midst of the Global Financial Crisis (GFC), I was asked by the CEO of a leading New Zealand bank to present to the Management Board around the Future of Banking. That presentation included some key insights around the role of banking and financial markets and encouraged them to think beyond the economic cycle and consider deeper structural issues and trends. As renewed concerns mount about financial market and economic weakness, I’ve been giving consideration to what has and hasn't changed.
  • Strong evidence as to why Management Matters!
Paul Leacock, a Director of our TakeON! Business Partner in New Zealand recently shared a video with us that he had seen on Breakfast TV, that provides a compelling case for TakeON! Management Matters.
